Indian chess prodigy D Gukesh is gearing up for a historic moment as he prepares to challenge China’s Ding Liren at the 2024 World Chess Championship, taking place in Singapore from November 25 to December 13. At just 18, Gukesh is making waves as he aims to bring the world title back to India, potentially becoming only the second Indian to do so after the legendary Viswanathan Anand.
Ranked World No. 5, Gukesh earned his shot at the title by winning the prestigious Candidates tournament earlier this year. The championship will be a best-of-14 games format, with Gukesh’s aggressive and creative playing style set to face the experience and calculated approach of Ding, the reigning world champion and first Chinese player to hold the title.
Chess fans worldwide are excited to see if Gukesh can overcome Ding and mark a new era for Indian chess.
